Poetry Thursday

This week's prompt for Poetry Thursday was to write or post a poem using words you love or hate. Mine is still a work in progress so this week, I have a poem by Kim Addonizio to give you instead. See if you can figure out which word is my favorite.

Well, my favorite word in that poem is "anvil." But I'm gonna guess I'm alone in that! Thanks for linking to it.

In that poem, I like lapse. The first time I considered having a favorite word, was after reading The God of Small Things. I chose one then, but I can't recall what it was, I don't mind though because it makes room for others. Today, one word I am very fond of is svelte.

It's true. No other word conveys that energy or power. Today, my favorite word is hoard. Yesterday it was f*ck.

Anvil is a good word, come to think of it. But f*ck is so versatile: verb, noun, adjective. How can you not love it?

Well, I've got to admit that of the two, anvil pops up much less often in my general conversation. In fact, this may be the closest thing I've ever had to a conversation using the word anvil. The same cannot be said of fuck.

i know of some folks -- young men of a certain worldview -- who will use fuck as an adjective or adverb to qualify "fuck," while using it seven or eight times in a row. e.g. "so-and-so is a fuckedity fucking fuck fuck fuckedity fuck fuck."

the perfect word.

Check out the documentary "Fuck" if it comes around your local theatre...I saw it at Hot Docs a few months ago...Hilarious yet thought provoking - uses "fuck" as a window into freedom of speech, among other things.

Ceebie, welcome. I haven't heard of that but I'll be sure to check it out.
